Stackable Traffic Cone

This tiny crochet traffic cone is bright, bold, and ready to cause absolutely zero real-life inconvenience. Perfect for desk decor, STEM play setups, car-loving kiddos, or adding a little chaotic-neutral energy to your craft space. Quick to make (~15 min) and beginner-friendly, this free pattern is a fun stackable stash-buster with maximum personality.

Supplies:

  • Hook: 4.00mm (Size G/6)
  • Yarn: Size 4 worsted weight (small amounts of yellow and orange)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • If you’d like to make the traffic cone a keychain you’ll also need stuffing, a keychain, and potentially safety eyes.

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:

  • MC - Magic Circle
  • SC - Single Crochet
  • HDC - Half Double Crochet
  • INC - Increase
  • CH - Chain
  • FLO - Front Loop Only
  • sk - skip
  • st - stitch
  • sts - stitches
  • slst - slip stitch
  • FO - Finish Off

Pattern Notes:

This pattern will be worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to keep track of which round you are on. Because these traffic cones are not stuffed they can be stacked on top of one another like the real deal!

If you’d like to turn the traffic cone into a stuffed keychain (not stackable) you can create the following circle in orange before beginning on the main piece:

Round 1: Start 6 SC in a MC [6]

Round 2: INC in each st around [12]

Round 3: (INC, SC)*6 [18]

Round 4: (SC, INC, SC)*6 [24]

FO leaving a short tail that will be hidden between the two pieces.

Then, before starting Round 13 in the actual cone below you’ll stack the circle on top of the cone with the right side of both pieces facing out. When going around with your single crochet stitches you’ll go through the next stitch in the cone before also pushing your hook through the correlating stitch in the circle piece. Before the entire piece is fully closed, be sure to stuff the cone to your liking and add eyes if you’d like. You’ll then continue onto row 14 as normal.

Have Fun!

FO and weave the end into the inside of the cone.

You can block the corners of your cones if you’d like the square base to be nice and straight. Even just pulling at them a little is helpful in getting the perfect cone shape.
