Flower Applique (Accent Color):
Round 1: In a MC: (CH 2, sk CHs, 2 DC, CH 2, sk CHs, SLST to MC)*5 [25] (each CH 2 here does count as a st)
FO, leaving a tail to sew to the underwear during assembly.
Step 2: Assembly and Finish
Sew the front of the underwear to the band leaving 11 sts open on both sides which allows for the leg holes.
Attach ACCENT COLOR to the top waistband 4 stitches away from the center of the back and (SC, HDC, CH 1, sk the CH, DC 3 in the next st, CH 1, sk the CH, HDC) * 16, SC, SLST together, FO. Weave ends in securely.
Attach MAIN COLOR to the leg hole in the corner on the backside where the main part of the underwear attaches to the waistband and SC around ~53x. SLST together to close and FO before weaving in the ends. Repeat with the other side’s leg hole.
Attach ACCENT COLOR to the leg in the corner on the backside where the main part of the underwear attaches to the waistband and and SLST around ~53x. SLST once more to close and FO before weaving in the ends. Repeat with the other side’s leg hole.
Sew the flower applique onto the underwear right below the waist band centered in the front and weave in the ends.
Using the MAIN COLOR create a french knot in the center of the flower applique thats sewn to the underwear and weave in the ends.
CONGRATS! You now have your very own crocheted full-coverage bikini-style underwear bookmark. Feel free to send me pictures, I’d love to see!
Note: If your book is a much different size than the typical 5.5" x 8.5" fiction novel or the 6" x 9" hardcover novel, you can experiment with different sized wasitbands and gusset widths/lengths by changing the number of CHs you start with and the number of rows you crochet, however due to the stretchy nature of yarn, these pairs of panties fit a wide variety of books and journals without customization.
